Scott County Schools was recognized for its position among the top five most energy efficient districts in Kentucky during a ceremony at the Capitol Rotunda. Students from the Northern Elementary School Energy Team performed during the celebration under the direction of teacher Elizabeth Cook.
Since 2009, SCS has saved over $5 million in avoided energy costs through the energy management program. The district was named Energy Star Partner of the Year-Sustained Performance in 2016 and was recognized as Energy Star Partner of the Year in both 2015 and 2013.
Scott County Schools first earned the Energy Star Leader Award in 2012. All schools K-12 have earned the Energy Star Award. Northern won the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star National Building Competition in 2011.
