What did you do this summer?
It is back to school time for students in Scott County.  This is the start of a new year of excitement and opportunity. For students at Southern Elementary the first day of school was a high-flying adventure.

Principal Bryan Blankenship, dressed in a pilot’s uniform, jumped aboard the helicopter of Officer Don from WKYT-TV. His flight provided an aerial view of the school and students at Southern who waved and cheered from the soccer field. Blankenship photographed students from his bird’s eye view.

One could say back to school for students in Scott County is all a matter of perspective.  The students in Margaret Shoemaker’s third grade class at Southern spent some time reflecting on favorite memories of the summer. New third grade students share the first draft of this assignment answering the age-old question, “What did you do this summer?”  These budding young writers certainly have a story to tell, as seen below written in their own hand.
