New Director of Lifelong Learning
Kay Combs is the new Director of Lifelong Learning for Scott County Schools. Combs has an undergraduate degree in Organizational Management and a Masters in Education with an emphasis on Adult Education. She is also enrolled in an Educational Leadership Doctoral Program with anticipated completion in May 2013.
Evolving with the numerous changes in adult and community education during her nine-year tenure with Scott County Schools, Combs knows the importance of collaborating with the school system to meet the education needs of our community. She is working now to align curriculum with common core standards which are more significant than current GED requirements.
With more than 70 graduates from the GED program each year, Combs and her staff work to meet students where they are and help remove barriers to education to help all students succeed.
In the area of community education, Lifelong Learning serves an average of 500 students per year in classes like Spanish, dance and computer instruction. New this year, Combs is working in partnership with BCTC to provide free college preparation classes for students.
