Hello, Garth students and families!  I would like to take a moment and share a little about myself... This is my ninth year in the role of being a school guidance specialist.  Before I took on this role I was an elementary school teacher and taught first-fifth grade.  This is my first year working here in Scott county schools and I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to work with such wonderful students, their families, and staff!

As the Guidance Specialist, I perform various roles here within our school.   In doing this I work to promote positive development in academics, career, and personal/social domains as outlined in the ASCA (American School Counseling Association) National Model. Below is a list of some of the roles that I have that helps in the development of the three domains:

  • Individual counseling
  • Small group counseling
  • Classroom guidance
  • Provide support to remove barriers for students and families to help improve student attendance and achievement
  • ARC (admissions and release committee) Chair to facilitate IEP (Individualized Education Plans) meetings
  • 504 coordinator and chair for the school
  • Attend and participate in Academic and Behavior RTI (response to intervention)
  • BAC (Building and Assessment Coordinator) Organize and administer building testing
  • Observe and facilitate positive student growth
  • Consult and collaborate with students, staff, families, administration and outside organizations
  • Respond and facilitate in emergency and crisis situations
  • Provide information and resources to staff and families on a variety of issues as needed
