My name is Grace Downey, and I am excited to teach the future graduating class of 2027 this year!
I am a Kentucky native from Lexington, where I graduated from Bryan Station High School. Afterward, I went to college and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Middle Grades Science&Math Education degree. I also hold an Environmental Education endorsement from Eastern Kentucky University, which means I am certified to teach environmental education to kids grades PreK-12, inside and outside of formal classrooms. I am finishing my thesis to earn my master's degree in STEM Education from the University of Kentucky. I am also currently a sixth grade team leader and a member of the instructional team.
Outside of Georgetown Middle School, I love and support others being an active member of the community. I am a member of the Lexington Environmental Commission, which promotes environmental awareness and education to the Lexington-Fayette County region. I also enjoy working with kids and adults alike to develop environmental citizenship and active lifestyles!
When I am not in class, I love to spend time with my family and friends, I love being outdoors and I am always up for trying new things whether it be new activities, new food or new ideas for class! As a teen I was very active in school, and I encourage everyone to get involved in a club or after-school activity at GMS!!
My goal this year is for kids to still love science by doing hands-on science and use multiple resources to teach you/your students science, while promoting community service awareness and a sense of citizenship in GMS. Although some of the content we cover in class may be challenging for the students, I am confident that we will exceed with great effort and enthusiasm for learning!
