As we wrap up this final month of school, I can’t help but reflect on what a fantastic year it has been! We started off the year with a science theme throughout the building as we challenged ourselves to “always question, always wonder”. Our students worked hard right out of the gate on raising money through the Boosterthon for our new playground equipment which has been so fun! Our school has continued to grow with the addition of several new faces (both staff and students) to the point that we have to expand onto our building in the upcoming year.
We’ve been able to watch our 4th graders lead through a school-wide STEM Day & we’ve been able to watch our 5th graders lead the building through Student Council and by hosting our annual Holiday Café. Our fall and spring afterschool clubs have provided lots of fun for our students, and we’ve been able to add a Drama Club which has blown us away with their winter and spring performances. In addition to our clubs, our Robotics & Archery teams have exceeded all previous years’ successes in their tournaments. In addition to all of that fun, we’ve had field trips, class parties, and holiday events. It has truly been a year for the books!
Our students are wrapping up their MAP testing for the year as we prepare to head into end of the year state assessment. I know that our 3rd graders are anxious about their first year in testing but that all grade levels are ready to show how much they have learned throughout the year. With testing, our students can tend to get worried. We always try to explain to students that we simply want them to try their best. We know a test does not define a student. We have seen the work that they have been able to do for us throughout the year, and we are so proud of all of our students. This is simply their chance to show others outside of our building how much they have learned this year with us at SGE! Please remind your child to get lots of rest, eat a good breakfast in the morning, and to use their skills to try their best. Most of all, encourage your child and let them know how proud you (& we) are of all that they have accomplished this year!
Finally, please help remind your child how important it is to finish out the year working hard and making wise decisions. Make sure that this summer your family takes some time to enjoy the beautiful weather, the slower pace of summer, and time together. In between all of the sun & fun, please also remind your child how important it is to read daily!
