On behalf of the faculty and staff it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Phoenix Horizon Community! We believe that Student Success and Achievement is linked to parental involvement and community.
Phoenix Horizon Community is an alternative school primarily available to Scott County Students in grades 7th-12th grades. This program provides a pathway for students to continue their goal to complete their requirements to earn a high school diploma. We recognize that each student is an individual with unique needs and learning styles that require the Phoenix Horizon Community’s faculty and staff to promote the following:
1) Provide a positive, student-centered, supportive and highly structured environment that includes an innovative curriculum, counseling and social skills that are integral parts of everyday learning
2) Ensure that every student develops the necessary academic and social skills they need to return to their home school or graduate and be successful
3) Provide a program which encourages high expectations for all students
Please do not be discouraged by the negative rhetoric or stigma often associated with an alternative program. The goal of this program is to promote high quality and rigorous academics and safety programs through the development of student’s strengths, talents and interests. Effective alternative learning programs encompass the following seven principles: Clear Mission, Leadership, Culture and Climate, Professional Development, Parent/Community Involvement, Curriculum and Instruction, and Monitoring and Assessment.
The challenges that our students have faced and the obstacles that are placed before their path towards graduation are lessened by experiencing school in an environment that is safe and positive.
I invite you to come see us in action. Thank you for allowing us to serve your student and family. Please do not hesitate to call me at (502) 863-4057 if you have questions or concerns.
