At the August 17, 2017 meeting of the Scott County Board of Education, members of the board considered bids for the construction of the Great Crossing High School building. The bid was awarded to D.W. Wilburn, Inc. of Lexington in the amount of $59,126,000.
Great Crossing High School will be a 1500 student high school with support space designed for 1930 students. An athletic complex including football, soccer, track, baseball, and softball fields with fieldhouse, grandstand, concessions, public restrooms, and support facilities will be bid as a separate package at a later date. The bid accepted at the meeting was for the construction of the building only.
The total cost of the project is $69,502,412. This number includes the construction cost of the building and athletic complex as well as fees for the architect, engineer, fiscal agent, surveys, inspections, and a 5% contingency fee.
Scott County Schools opened the sealed bids at 2:00pm on the afternoon of August 17. There were two bids submitted.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on the property of the new school at 120 Betsy Way at 10:00am on Friday, September 1, 2017. Great Crossing High School will open in August 2019.
