Lexington Children’s Theater presented Long Road to Freedom to fourth and fifth grade students at Anne Mason Elementary School. The lyrical play shows the progression of the lives of two women who meet as little girls. It is a powerful story about the underground railroad and social responsibility.
“It was very innovative. There were only three actors but a bunch of characters using a limited space and a few props,” reflected fifth grade student Keegan Bell. “The spiritual music inspired me.”
Classmate Adrian Cannada agreed, “The music told a story.”
The play was the second touring production to visit Anne Mason this year. School librarian Beth Wells used proceeds from the book fair to ensure all students were able to experience a theatrical performance.
