TOY Graphic

Two Scott County teachers are among the top 24 educators in the state to receive Valvoline Teacher Achievement Awards presented by the Kentucky Department of Education and Valvoline Inc.  Erin Ball from Georgetown Middle School and Erin McIver from Elkhorn Crossing School will now compete for the 2020 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award.

Teacher Achievement Award winners will receive a cash gift of $500 and other mementos to commemorate this accomplishment when they are honored at a ceremony on May 20 in Frankfort.

Erin Ball was the 2018 Teacher of the Year from Georgetown Middle School and was named the 2018 Middle School Teacher of the Year in Scott County.  A parent nominated Ball writing, “We have all had that one teacher and she [Ball] has been that teacher for my son.  She goes the extra mile to work with her students and their parents.  She is a gifted writing instructor and is personally invested in the growth of her students.”

Erin McIver was the 2018 Teacher of the Year from Elkhorn Crossing School and the 2018 Scott County High School Teacher of the Year.  Her nomination form describes McIver as an active collaborator who seeks input from other teachers to constantly improve.  She coaches students to create their own set of classroom norms.  She meticulously plans every lesson carefully scaffolding experiences for all students.  McIver is dedicated to her craft.

A panel of veteran educators will narrow the list of 24 to three finalists at each level, elementary, middle, and high school.  The Kentucky Department of Education and Valvoline Inc. will name the Elementary School Teacher of the Year, Middle School Teacher of the Year, and High School Teacher of the Year.  One of the three will be named the 2020 Kentucky Teacher of the Year.

The Kentucky Teacher Awards program is in its 19th year.  Best of luck to Erin Ball and Erin McIver!  We are so thankful for their continued dedication to excellence and for all they do every day for students in Scott County!
