The slate of high school basketball coaches in Scott County will double for the 2019-2020 school year.
Steve Helton, leader of the girls’ basketball program at SCHS, will continue at the helm of the championship team. This season, Helton rose to the ranks of the all-time winningest girls’ basketball coach at SCHS and in Region 11. He was named the Kentucky Basketball Association Coach of the Year. As Region 11 champs, the Lady Cardinals had a record-setting 34-2 season and advanced to the quarter final round of the Sweet 16.
“The Scott County women’s basketball program will continue to have the same high expectations,” Helton reflected. “Our program is built on hard work, experienced, and accomplished coaching staff that will continue to develop highly skilled, college-ready basketball players.”
Long-time assistant coach Glenn Wilson looks forward to leading the Great Crossing High School girls’ basketball program. Wilson has been an assistant basketball coach at SCHS since 1998 working closely with Helton to build the successful program. During his career, Wilson has also coached football, men’s basketball, and track and field. Wilson is a teacher a Scott County Middle where he has worked since 2005.
“I am very excited and grateful to have this opportunity to be Great Crossing head girls’ basketball coach. I look forward to continuing to coach in the best county in the state,” stated Wilson.
Tim Glenn is the new Scott County High School boys’ basketball coach. Glenn started his tenure with the team as a player serving as co-captain before playing basketball at Asbury University and later as part of the Kentucky Coyotes, a United Professional Basketball League. Glenn served as assistant coach with the acclaimed Scott County High School basketball program for 17 years and was the coach at Scott County Middle School for seven years. He has worked as a teacher at SCMS since 1995.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled to be offered the opportunity to continue working with Scott County basketball in the role of head coach. I consider it a true blessing from the Lord to have been able to work with the game of basketball and coach in the Scott County system over the last 24 years,” Glenn stated.
The SCHS boys’ basketball team brought home the Region 11 championship title for three consecutive years and were runners-up for the state title the last two years. This year the team celebrated a 35-4 record. Boys’ basketball coach Billy Hicks recently announced his retirement after 25 years in Scott County.
The position of head coach for Great Crossing High School boys’ basketball will be filled soon. The position is currently posted at https://www.scott.kyschools.us/employment.
