Author Visits Royal Spring

Librarian Traci Mahone introduced the esteemed guest saying that the message was intended specifically for the eighth grade audience.  She stressed to her students, what you do now shapes your future and can pave the way for success.  Sharing personal testimony, Mahone urged the young audience to see their Kentucky roots as a strength.

Author Alecia Whitaker grew up not far from the school, on a tobacco and cattle farm in Harrison County.   Her book, The Queen of Kentucky, was written as a “love letter to home.”   She shared insight with students about how to become a writer, read excerpts from the book, and answered student questions.  She also showed the book trailer featuring teens from Kentucky.

Students at Royal Spring were eager to read the novel after an introduction by it’s author.
